Casters and wheels for industrial use cover the widest range of applications and are used indoors and outdoors. Casters in this range are typically thought of in three groups: light duty range up to 500 lb. (225 kg) per caster; medium duty range from 500 lb. (225 kg) to 2000 lb. (900 kg) per caster and heavy duty range covering over 2000 lb. (900 kg) per caster. The light and medium duty range of casters are normally designed and manufactured for slow speeds 2 mph (4 km/hr). They can be equipped with wheel and/or swivel brakes and directional locks to provide for maximum maneuverability.

The construction of the range
of heavy duty casters is stronger and can be built to deal with higher
speeds in tow line applications. Casters in this range can usually be
fitted with two or three wheels to move extremely heavy loads. Directional
locks, which can easily be engaged and disengaged without removing the
casters, can also be fitted to assist in the positioning of equipment.
Spring suspension systems are another option available in this range of
caster to account for ground deviation where inflexible structures are
being moved or to reduce shock and vibration in transport of fragile goods.
